I have the hardware with my PC to play DVD movies in dts sound and I obtained a wav file with dts audio but none of my software will play it, not PowerDVD or VLC.

I usually select SPDIF for the output to allow the hardware to do the decoding but it doesn't even give me the option with this dts audio wav file.

The hardware is Creative DDTS-100 decoder. Thanks

What sound card do you have? If you have a Audigy card try playing with Creative MediaSource. Works for me on DTS-Audio CDs. I do not use a external DTS decoder however.

I have an audigy 2 soundcard, but i usually by pass it through a coaxial spdif connection to the dts decoder.

Can a dts encoded file be in a .wav file, someone was telling me a .wav can only be analogue, is this true?

No. DTS-WAV is a different type of file. Have you tried outputting normally, not through a SPDIF and letting the soundcard do the decoding. It may be that your external DTS decoder doesn't support the different coding in DTS-WAV (maybe it is just for DVD DTS tracks, does it work ok with these?).

I would definatly try playing with Mediasource, with analogue sound output. I however am no expert with DTS decoding, so I would wait around here and I am sure somebody with more experiance will be able to offer some more detailed advice.

The only solution I found was to convert the file from wav-dts to dts with "dts parser". I also uses direct pass through spdif and I haven't found a software that output dts through it from wav-dts. All I have been enable to get is complete decoding and PCM output or inaudible complete pass through.

I have tried many setting in MPC, VLC, DirectShow and even foobar but I didn't spend much time on it. I still believe it should feasable...

I'm sorry it isn't working for u.
It's working pretty good for me and many other user of foobar2000 with dts plugin.
Are u sure it's a dts-file?

only with foobar2000 0.83 special -> not with the 0.9 beta versions ;)

BTW: go and find VLC 0.72 from an old source - those versions can replay dtswav without any problem. A friend has downloaded this version a couple days ago and dtswav support won´t work. My old version (I´ve downloaded when 0.72 was uptodate) works fine :D

Would that be emulated using software? or the proper spdif out thing that goes to my dts codec?

This should be a simple task like with movies but nothing seems to play it, i'll try vlc 0.72

There are three players so far afaik which can play the dtswav stream without converting to the native dts format with besplit:
. foobar2k 0.83 : rename the extention to dts
. vlc : v0.72,,, most of the versions except 0.82 without extension change
. any dsf capable player with ffdshow (+ dts/ac3 source) : set ffdshow codec setting 'enable' pcm decoding + 'check dts signal in the wav' in the dts codec setting

If all of them do not play, it's a seek problem because of the unnecessary filler between the wav header & actual stream, which can be excluded with hexeditor.
The seek functions in the mentioned players behave differently, so the part to be excluded varies depending on the contents & decoders.

Well I've tried those and nothing, I give up.

Just seems odd how i can play dts movies no problem but cant even play a simple wav file.
