I've been trying to upgrade my Sony DVP-NS92V DVD players firmware from its existing 1.22 to what is current the latest, 1.31. I can't for the life of me get the player to recognise the firmware file on any CD-R I write, and I've tried different methods of writing and even different media just in case. It happily plays Xvids that I write up, so it obviously can read the disks I'm writing up using Nero. I'm writing the SNEEC995.BIN file to a blank CD-R at 4x speed in standard ISO9660 mode, the player knows it's a data disk but doesn't do anything with the file.
Supposedly the upgrades improve divx compatibility which can't be a bad thing, if it ends up adding GMC support for Xvid and the like then all the better.
The upgrade I'm trying to use is from this page;

* EDIT
Ok, apparently despite appearing physically identical and having the exact same model numbers, apparently players from different areas have quite different circuit designs. The link above has a firmware that is incompatible with the version of the player supplied in Australasia. Supposedly there are no updates beyond v1.22 available for the Asia/Pacific model.
Reply from Sony:
"At this stage there is no firmware upgrade for the Asia Pacific model. The upgrade online is for the European version only. The specifications of the model are the same however in different areas of the world, different circuit boards are used. The European version uses a completely different board so the firmware upgrade is not compatible."
Solves that problem...
