How do I convert PAL DVD to NTSC DVD?

I would like to find out how to convert a PAL DVD to NTSC DVD with free tools that are available. I have tried a few different methods and a patch method with IFO Edit, but I am not satisfied with the outcome.
I would like to play my PAL DVD's on my standalone DVD player.
The DVD's are not for viewing on my pc, this I can do.
I am not an advanced pc user and I'm not interested in a patch for my standalone DVD player.

You will need the following free programs:
DGIndex (to generate the .d2v file and demux the audio)
Avisynth (to resize to 720x480),
HC or QuEnc (to re-encode the video)
dgpulldown (to adjust the flags if your video is progressive)
Audacity (if your video is interlaced and you do not wish to deinterlace, adjust audio speed by 4%)
BeSweet (to create the ac3 file if you edited the sound)
MuxMan (to author your DVD)
mkiso (to create your dvd image)
ImgBurn (to burn the dvd)
If you want to keep menus: NuMenu4u VIP (VIP is not free, but the free version requires a $3,000 dvd program)

There are many threads on how to convert. You should be able to find a couple (if not hundreds) to walk you through step by step.


I am not an advanced pc user and I'm not interested in a patch for my standalone DVD player.Then I suggest you purchase a multi-region dvd player. You can find a cheap player for around $30 US. There is no simple 1-click tool to do the conversion (at least not yet).
