View Full Version : Multi-threaded design in common tools?

I've been pondering getting a dual-core P4 CPU (Extreme edition) for some time now for other reasons. If the common tools around here (GKnot, DGIndex, VobDubMod, various codecs especially Xvid) are threadsafe, and more importantly designed for multi-threaded operation, that would probably tip me over the edge.

What's the scoop?

unfortunately none of the above mentioned apps are designed for multithreading...

So dual-core's not really gonna buy me anything in video processing. Dang

Xvid now supports multithreading with syskin's patch and can be downloaded from Koepi's site. It will be slow on single-core procs, so don't use it if you don't have multithreading capability.

You can read about it here. (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=104257)
