Hi, I'm doing some HDTVs clips, but Avisynth
is such a memory hog, so I'm thinking about
adding 1G to a Win98 PC with 512m ram. I know
how to fix win98's vcache problem with >512M Ram,
But can avisynth under win98 really use memory above 512M?
Thanks for you help...

....why are you using a DOS front end, cause that almost what win9X is...
XP is cheap, and 2k even cheaper

It's more like the rear end.

Windows 98 can use up to 768 MB of RAM. Just set it in msconfig as the limit. However, it is generally accepted that 512 is the limit that Windows 98 can effectively use.
The reason why AviSynth is "such a memory hog" as you so kindly put it is probably because Windows 98 is notoriously bad at memory management.

Huh? They have come down in price. But they are still some of the most expensiove software a home user might buy outside of overpriced MS Office. And that cost can still be hard to justify when for all it's flaws Win98 might still get the job done. The last version of Windows I bouhgt was the Win95 Upgrade. And the last version I got when I bout a PC was Win98. ;)

meh
I can't see what you would win9X for other than playing dos games without the hassle of loading a dos disk, but then again, some people can't afford it, but if he can afford getting more ram he can cetainly get 2k or xp
