Hi - I currently have s Skyworth standalone that plays all xvis packed bitstream jerkily. I've tried mpeg4 modifier etc but it only improves it slightly, still jerky.
Many players are now availabl (H & B, Yamada etc) for about £40 (my budget) but I want one that will play xvid P.Bitst. without any other modifiation.

Cheers

Mine works like a charm. It's an LG LDX-514.

Well that's a good question and one I've been trying hard to answer for myself. I too am in the game for a good ~£40 player that can do packed bitstream.

For simplicity I am just looking for a Mediatek player that can do this and so far I have found the following:

H&B 3255 - I bought this player. Definitely doesn't play packed bitstream. No firmware mod available for it. Playback quality is sub-par for mediatek players I have seen too. This was the brand new version as well.

Yakumo DX4 - I bought this player. Plays packed bitstream ok without modification. Quality of playback was better then the H&B but it is of poor build quality, rubbish remote, and no analogue 5.1.

Yamada 6700 - Not bought. Plays back packed bitstream with the 'New Age V4' firmware. In fact this firmware makes the player a A+ player (not for mp4 wrappers though).

Medion (Aldi) 80796 - Nice looking player this one (cheap but has memory reader supports and USB for external storage devices). Recently Mtz made a brilliant firmware for it which also support packed bitstream!

There are loads of players out there but you can't be 100% sure any one player will work with packed bitstream until you actually try it out for yourself. Your best bet would be to buy a player that has a modded firmware for it that is confirmed to work with packed bitstream. The medion player is the one I'm after (it was £20 in Aldi a while back) - but not easy to get hold of in the UK at the moment. If anyone knows where let me know!

every divx certified player has to handle _1_ b-frame with packed bitstream

Yes but many many many avis have 2 or more b-frames with packed bitstream - I know an awful lot of mine do and this 'divx certification' nonsense certainly does not cover that!

My elta 8883 did not play them, but my new Silvercrest KH6508 (with Zoran Vaddis 7 chipset) does play them, with no problems so far!

Hi,

Are you saying that after removing the packed bitstream with mpeg4modifier you file is still jerky?
If so problem could be too much bitrate rather than packed bistream!
If not, infos are welcome.
