For the past few days I've been going nuts trying to get AVI files onto a DVD and create a nice little menu and all that. I bought Sonic MyDVD Studio Deluxe Suite and ULead MovieFactory 4 and Workshop 2. I even went to a friends house and got Nero StartSmart from him. Here are the problems:

I have a bunch of AVI files archived on my hard drive and I'd like to turn them into a DVD with menus and such.

Sonic MyDVD Studio Deluxe Suite: Everytime I try to add the AVI file it gives this message: "Could not make thumbnail. Make sure you have the appropriate decoder installed. -47010" Now this message happens with almost all my AVI files. I do have a few small WMV files and it was able to read those though. So I assume it has something to do with the file (but it is supposed to read AVI files thouh!)

Both ULead programs simply crash when I try to add the files.

Nero is the ONLY program that recognizes the files. BUT, when I try to get them onto a DL DVD, it gives an error after burning. It can do it on a regular 4 gig DVD, but not the 8 gig; Even though I do have a DL DVD Burner!

I have a feeling I need to convert my AVI files, but I don't know what to use to check/convert them in order for my DVD software to recognize them.

If anyone has suggestions on programs/applications or ANYTHING I can use/do, I'd really appreciate it. These AVI's are really clogging up my HD.

Thanks!

Hi!Everytime I try to add the AVI file it gives this message: "Could not make thumbnail. Make sure you have the appropriate decoder installed. -47010"What codec(s) did you use when you originally created these .AVIs?

I don't really know.

Is there a peice of software that I can get to check what kind of AVI files they are and if they can work with DVD software?

Also, I have been successful with using Nero (and I actually find it easier then those others), but only with a regular 4 gig DVD. I own a very fast Sony DVD DL burner (i just got it last month). For some reason Nero will burn on a regular disc no problem, but when i try to add more clips, it says I need a DVD-9... which i have. I bought many 8.5 gig DVD+R DL's. It goes through the process, but at the end it gives me an error (right as it is supposed to put it on the DVD - because the DVD is still blank). Maybe this would be easier to fix?? I'm at a loss really.

If you don't know what codec/s were used to create your files, it's logical to assume that you did not personally create them. See Doom9's Fair Use Disclaimer (http://www.doom9.org/disclaimer.htm), the Forum Rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm), and the Announcement (http://forum.doom9.org/announcement.php?f=6) from the Newbies homepage. These documents will give you an idea of what we can and cannot bring to the Forum, and why.
