Hey guys I just got my Pioneer DV-588A-S in the mail today. I tried to play a DVD of some anime that I have (there in divx) however it seems like the top and the bottom are cutoff. Like the video is to big for the screen. Its not very noticable until you start to read the subtitle and there being cut in-half. I was wondering has anyone had this issuse before and is there a fix for this issuse without having to re-encode the video in a smaller display. My firmware is 1.09

Try on another TV. If your TV have too big overscan maybe the best solution is to set the TV overscan from Service Menu of TV.
Also the player will output about 5 % overscan.
enjoy,

Settings in TV Service Menu is an advanced feature and must be done by specialists.

....Hitachi TV's have a "Factory Reset" feature, which if applied, often causes more harm than good.
It's not for novices!
