Hi. I am trying to figure this out. What codec does B96 use in their internet streaming radio? It says 36 K bits/second. The only codec I know that has that option is WMA V2. But when I encode my MP3's to WMA V2 36kbps, 32khz they sound much different. There are a lot more metallic artifacts that B96 doesn't have. Does anyone know what codec they use?

HE-AAC v2?
Use the latest winamp, rip a CD with "AACPlus v2" 32 kbps "44100 (Parametric Stereo)"
If you have bought Nero 7, you can also do it with Nero
You can go as low as 16 kbps, 44100 Khz, while preserving stereo

Thanks but I've tried that. That's not it, it is some codec that can encode to 36kbps and I can't figure out what it is. Or maybe there are certain effects/filters used but I don't know what filters those are.

With BeLight you can use the Winamp encoder and encode HE AAC v2 (aacPlus with Parametric Stereo) at any bitrate you like, including 36 kbps ;)
Nevertheless I would use the Nero 7 encoder with VBR
