hi, i have read FAQ and searched so i hope this is new.
i have some problems encoding movies with subtitles in AutoGK

i am trying to encode Lukas Moodysson box set films for my portable.
using AutoGK 2.26

must use burnt in subs as my player doesnt support other types :/

problem on movie 1: F*cking Amal.
subs come out too high and squished. hard to read on screen.

problem on movie 2: Together
subs are too low, so the 2nd row of subtitles is cut off.

is there anything i can do about this please? encoding is otherwise good with AutoGK. have looked CTRL+F9 options can't see anything relevant there.
edit: .adjustsubs was on (default). i'll try again with it off?

would it help to post part of the logs?

Fairuse Wizard does not have these subtitle position issues, but has its own issues, like subtitle alpha not working so subs have red halos. the alpha is ok in AutoGK, just the position is not good.

any advice much appreciated.

ok with .adjustsubs off the subtitles on Together are fine!
so i guess the Q is why is .adjustsubs going wrong?
could it be that i changed some DVobSub options?
i will try to uninstall and reinstall DvobSub next.

update: i had vobsub 2.37 installed, and the one that come with AutoGK is 2.33. is this the source of my problem?

what exactly does .adjustsubs do? stop the subs being resized with the rest of the movie?
does AutoGK use the general settings in Dvobsub or vobsub?

i will try again later after clean reinstalling autogk (although im not sure how to wipe all the settings of the programs autogk installed e.g. dvobsub).

Try to save the subtitle from Subtitles Workshop, saving as Substation Alpha.
Before saving from Subtitles Workshop try to adjust the SSA saving settings from: Settings > Output settings > Substation Alpha (.ssa).
I use this settings: Font > Arial Narrow 25 Regular
Others:
Left Margin: 8
Right Margin: 8
Vertical Margin: 10
Outline: 2
Shadow: 0

Make some tests with smaller avi.

enjoy,
Mtz

thanks er..
1) you mean Subtitle Workshop from http://www.urusoft.net/ ?
i can't see how to load the subs from the movie into that... i can load a .VOB but doesnt seem to load whole movie and i don't see how to save .ssa.
2) can i burn .ssa subs into the avi using AutoGK or with something else?
3) what's the easiest way to encode just a small piece of the movie?

sorry i really don't know how to do this heh! what would i be achieving using SSA?
i have to have burnt in subs for my AV500.

AutoGK with .adjustsubs off seemed to be ok, ill try again overnight after reinstalling VobSub
I am encoding with AVI.net now to see how that does. i think it won't work because it seems to have the aspect wrong (4:3 in the preview).

nope, no difference after reinstall autogk with vobsub 2.33. can someone please advise me how to fix this problem with adjustsubs sending the subs off the bottom of the movie or too high on another movie.
thanks.

(Avi.net was useless, got the aspect all wrong!)
(Fairuse wizard doesn't understand transparent subs it seems)
you're my only hope GK ;)

does the way you rip the movie matter for adjustsubs? i used DVDFab (free version) and loaded \VIDEO_TS\VTS_03_0.IFO
apart from the subs position everything encoded fine.
am i doing something wrong in the way i'm loading the source?
or is there a file that controls sub position that i can edit manually?
