Just wondering what kind of times people are getting using DVD Shrink between AMD and Intel P4...

I'm considering getting either an Athlon 64 3500+ or the 3.4 GHz P4 650 HT... just thought I'd see if anyone has used either of these processors and what kind of times they are experiencing.

If you want to put other info like RAM and motherboard please do...

Thanks!

My average time on shrink is about 2 hours but it basically depends on the compression. If I didnt have 2 and 5 channel it would probably take me a half hour or alittle more. I always check off all non english.

I use a 2.0 ghz amd

As you can see, Intel surprisingly outperforms AMD on Shrink, at least using the latest and greatest processors. I say surprisingly, because AMD tends to have a performance advantage on most other applications at this point in time.

Intel's newest dual-core mobile processor produces stellar results as well. See http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2648&p=10. But I do not know what the encoding times of an A64 3500+ vs. a P4 650 might be.

I use a CPU v. similar to the one you are thinking about getting, a 3.0 GHz P4 630, but my encoding times vary so much, depending on the DVD, whether deep analysis or adaptive error compensation are enabled, and the amount of compression, that any figures I might give out are pointless.

Shrink does NEVER touch any audio stream so this won't affect encoding time at all.

Dvdshrink encodes? It doesnt, it transcodes, thats why the output looks dead crappy.
