I am fairly new to backing up dvds. At first i didn't have any problems, but now DVD Shrink and DVD Rebuilder are both shutting down at different phases during the encoding process. I am also running DVD Decrypter and it is running fine. I have recently had my computer formatted, therefore, had to reinstall all of my programs. My trouble of shutting down started before this, i was hoping that it would help since my computer had been cleaned up but it hasn't. I am running XP home as my operating system. I am very frustrated, hope someone can help. Thanks.

Hi!DVD Shrink and DVD Rebuilder are both shutting down at different phases during the encoding processWhat do you mean by "shutting down"? Are these two programs generating error messages, disappearing from the screen, locking up your computer, or terminating?

If they are generating error messages, EXACTLY what are the messages?

Which specific DVDs (title and Region) are causing this to happen?

Hi, they are causing my computer to completely shut down and restart. There usually isn't an error message, just that when the computer restarts i get a message saying that your computer has recovered from a serious error.....
The DVDs that i have been trying are all region 1, titles such as top gun, miss congeniatlity 2, enemy at the gates, spanglish, racing stripes, meet the fockers, pretty much everything that i try.
I should also add that the programs that i am using have been downloaded from the doom9 website.

One possibility is that your system may be overheating. Try cleaning out the dust and grime from the innards.

Another could be bad RAM.

If your system is overclocked, this could also be the source of your problem...

thank you for your response, i will try cleaning my system. But what does it mean to have 'bad ram' or to be 'overclocked'. Is it something that i can fix myself?

I have cleaned out my innards, i have also done some researched and realized that my Tridnet Video Accelerator Blade 3D/ ProMedia device does not start, i am trying to reinstall it. I hope this might be my problem!?!

Video issues won't cause your computer to simply restart during something like an encode - more than likely your video drivers have become corrupted during one of the shut-downs. When you reboot from the error next time, click the "Send report" button, which will give you a browser window that will hopefully explain the error and why you got it. If you don't understand it, you can paste a link to the error here.

Thanks for the tip, i ran prime95 and got an error. I have done some reading on what to do but i think it is beyond what i should be doing to my computer, i would probably end up blowing it up. I guess i will have to take it in and get it fixed....$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
