DVD Chapters: Creation and Modification

Hello,

I have a DVD which has automatic chapters all 5 minutes. I would like to set my own chapter entry points in this DVD and delete the predefined chapter entry points.

Is there any Freeware that allows to easily set/change/delete chapter entry points for a DVD?

The best solution would offer me the following capabilities:

- preview screen to choose the right position of the chapter entry point
- only rewriting IFO/BUP not touching the VOB files

I have tried with IFO-Edit but was not successful (do not understand enough or IFO-Edit is not the right tool).

I would not like to encode from VOB to AVI, use a video software and re-encode to VOB.

Can anyone help?

It is impossible to change the chapter points w/o modifying the VOBs. A chapter point must be at the beginning of a cell, and cannot be moved by modifying the IFOs only.
You can try to split the existing cells with the latest VobBlanker, and remove the program and chapter you don't need with PgcEdit. But I haven't tested this method yet.

r0lZ, you're right, of course, but an important point for Musi is that you don't need to decode/re-encode, because all that needs to be modified are the navpacks (not the actual video).

1) Use TMPGenc DVD Author, and set the new chapter points.

2)
You can extract the chapter points with PgcEdit into a textfile.
Edit the chapter points.

Demux the vobs (VobEdit/DGIndex).

Remux the video with MuxMan and the new chapter list.
Muxman generates new cells, but only starts with VobID 1.

The freeware tool Chapter Edit (http://www.goonix.biz/download/tools/Chapter_Edit_110.rar) can delete and add chapters without reencoding the VOBs (it changes the navpacks within the VOBs of course, so it is "touching" it).

The disadvantage: It works on movie only. Your menu get lost.

But you can re-import the modified movie with PgcEdit's "Replace VTS titles" function.

I don't think so. ChapterEdit has no CLI syntax. And it has some important limitations (such as impossible to use if there are more than 1 title in the DVD!)

But you should be able to configure it in the Tools menu.

No but really, what's wrong with using vobblanker to split the cell where you want it, then PgcEdit to adjust the chapters? That's the way I would do it, lacking dvdremakepro...

ChapterEdit is very easy to use. As is VobBlanker (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm) and DVD Remake Pro (http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremakepro/index.php) (despite its cost which seatrip has reminded me of)

Dear All,

Thank you very much for intensive discussions and answers.

I have tried with ChapterEdit (I was lucky to finally find the english version after starting with the japanese one) and the result is very good, even if Chapter Edit is not what I would call an "ergonomic tool" (especially the fact that a running session cannot be saved).

Having more than one Movie on the DVD was possible by following this way:

(1) Extracting the movies to single movies one by one with DVD Shrink (deleting all menues - having all movies on the HDD)
(2) Reworking the movies one by one with ChapterEdit (creating new chapter entry points)
(3) Merging the single movies to a DVD with n movies with DVD Shrink again

Comment: The distance between the predefined cells in the VOB is so small that there will not be a need for me to even rework the cells. There is always an entry point which is very very near to the targetted entry point.
