View Full Version : Wierd effect on the bottom of video when encoding

I have an xvid rip, it's 25fps PAL with mp3 audio. When I try to use Nero Vision to encode it, I get this at the bottom:

I have tried every combination of settings in Nero, from changing it to NTSC or leaving PAL and every quality and aspect ratio option available and it's still there. It's NOT there when just watching the xvid file in WMP. Gspot says the video is 640x360 @ 855kb/s. Any ideas?

Post a sample of the original file and your settings.

It looks like edging. Since 360 isn't a mod16 resolution, nero fills it up to be a (proper) 640x368 resolution.

OK, that makes sense. I've got the original with a ratio of 1.77~ at 640x360 and the screen caps (albeit enlarged) have a ratio of 1.75 at 852x480 with the edging. So that would mean the original size is wider than it should be compared to the height for a proper ratio, so would adding something like 4 pixels worth of black bars to the top and bottom to make it a proper 640x368 take care of this problem?

Yup you are correct, you are presuming (incorrectly in this case). Stick to what you KNOW, and please don't respond unless you intend to answer/help with the topic.

In this case he is actually correct unless you misspoke in your original statement.

Gspot says the video is 640x360 @ 855kb/s. Any ideas?

Why did you need to use gspot when if you encode it you would know exactly what settings you used. He was just pointing out something you said yourself.

I assume CWR03's ChronoCross' point were that, having a legal copy of the source, it's not such a bright idea to take the 640x360 855kbit XviD-rip and recode it to a new format. All sane minded people would do a fresh encoding from the original source. Except for when it's not there.
