ac3 audio not working

i did a fresh install recently, yet i cant get ac3 audio to work, dosent work with ac3 filter which i always use or ffdshow.

is there a program that can delete all know ac3 files and registry entries from my computer, dont want to have to format :(

managed to get it working using another ac3 filter, dosent say who its by, by the readme says

"To install the AC3 audio codec on your system:

Unzip all files from ac3codec.zip using WinZip. (http://www.winzip.com/)
Then simply run install.bat to install the audio codec.

After you've done this Windows Media Player will support AC3 audio in movies.

would still like to know how to fix the problem though, this other ac3 codec has no config, it just copies to files to windows\system and registers them, i want to use ac3 filter so i can use spdif out to my 5.1 system.

Unregister and uninstall the filters u installed with the ac3codec.zip.
Try to opened the .ac3 and post the error message.

i didnt get an error in winamp or media player 10 when playing ac3 movies, just didnt get any sound.

Try to render the file thru GraphEdit. Just right-click the file --> Open with --> Choose program --> Graphedit. That´should render the file. Post which filters are being used.

i opened it with graph edit, i had ac3 filter and the other filter (that works) both installed, not sure if they have to be uninstalled or anything.

To render ac3 files I´m using for stand-alone AC3s these filters: DTS/AC3source --> AC3Filter --> Directshow audio renderer.
For AVIs: avi2ac3dts.ax and ac3filter.

i have realtek ac97 alc850 audio codec on my dfi expert mobo, using latest 3.81 drivers.

just found at that the other ac3 codec dosent work properly, it play background stuff, but not foreground voices in movies:( please could someone help me out.

Try unregistering every ac3 filter except for:
avi2ac3dts.ax
dtsac3source.ax
ac3filter

i have installed 3, so wouldnt even know where to start, i'll have to format, nevermind.
