I have ordered Tivo's recommended network adapter so that my Tivo Series II can talk to my wireless network, and I can free up space on my Tivo's hard drive by loading shows onto my computer, and then burning DVD's. I have a standalone DVD burner too, and could have just dubbed the analog video as if dubbing to a VCR, but I wanted to make digital copies so I do not lose a generation, etc.
So, here is my question: What sort of files am I going to get from my Tivo? Are they simply mpeg files that any DVD burning software can handle, or is it something different? My computer came with Sonic MyDVD Plus, and I read in a forum on the Tivo website that Sonic causes problems.
Another related question I have: Am I limited as to how big a file (how long a show) I can transfer from Tivo to my computer? I have a Compaq computer with a 100Gig hard drive, Sempron 3100+ processor, 1 gig Ram, Windows XP. Is there a 4gig limit and if so, does that mean that a 4GB file size limit will prevent me from transferring a 2-hour movie? I am guessing this since a DVD that holds a two-hour movie is 4.7GB. (But I am not sure how many GB per hour Tivo records at in best quality)
