hi
ive been encoding with gordian knot and has successfully encoded to 175mb but i see there is high than usual pixelation around distinctive lines such as edges of a face or body or table. Anything with an edge etc. Can anyone tell me what i can do??

Thank you for posting your log file.
I see the following things in it, some more critical than others. First, your audio size calculation, not quite so critical:Calculator:
VideoSize: 146148 kbyte.
Audio1Size: 31729 kbyte.
Audio2Size: 0 kbyte.
Overhead: 1322 kbyte.
AviSize: 179200 kbyte (175 mbyte).
FilesSize: 0 kbyte.
TotalSize: 179200 kbyte (175 mbyte). It looks to me like you used the current filesize of the 192kbps soundtrack (.ac3) file in your initial calculation. This gets adjusted during the encoding job, but it produces misleading video bitrate information during your resolution analysis phase, in particular, lowering your bits/pixels*frames value. If you're converting to 128kbps mp3, use the 128kbps estimate, rather than the .ac3 file, since the audio bitrate reduction is a factor. Its less of a factor here when using 192kbps DD2.0ch. However, when your source is 448kbps DD5.1ch, you may be significantly misled. Here's where the log shows the video bitrate correction ... but by this point, you've already made all your decisions:9:34:51 AM: Audio Done.
9:34:51 AM: MP3-File-Size is 21474 kb.
9:34:51 AM: Audio 1, determined: 21474 kb
9:34:51 AM: Audio 1, calc: 31729 kb
9:34:51 AM: New Bitrate for Movie = 946 k(=1000)Bits/s
More critical to your results, I saw this:Quality: 0.180 bits/(pixel*frame).
CompCheck3: 0.000 bits/(pixel*frame).
CompCheck5: 0.000 bits/(pixel*frame).
While you can "plug in" a resolution and bitrate that provide a consistant b/p*f value, the performance of an MPEG-4 codec is content dependant. Your b/p*f value is close to Doom9's recommended minimum ... but because you are not doing compression tests, you may be missing critical information regarding the compressibility of your particular content. Compressibility tests are a best practice, and are highly recommended.
Try a compression test, and see what the results will tell you. The test produces an estimate of the maximum b/p*f possible, and GK will take into account changes in resolution and bitrate (the latter is set by your file size, and size of soundtracks). Doom9 recommends setting resolution and bitrate to produce a compression factor in the 40-60% of maximum range, many members here prefer 60-80%. If memory serves, AutoGK aims for 75%.

also note that Family Guy is a pretty demanding source, especially in PAL land, where it's been standards-converted in a rather bad way (worse than you'll find in PAL anime - they seem to have used vintage equipment or something, because it looks totally naff and the picture is nowhere near stable).
add to that the bizarrely flickering lines throughout the first 2 (3) seasons - this is from slowing clips down in an editing app, and allowing it to deinterlace when slowing down... you might notice jumpy horizontals and big pixels when watching the disc.
what i'm saying is this source is going to need more bitrate than you might expect for such simple flat animation. sharp edges are always bad for codecs anyway...
you could always get a hold of the US DVDs, but they're not any better, the only advantage being they're native NTSC rather than converted to PAL. to be honest, the fan encodes floating around the net are probably better quality than the DVDs (please don't download these... that's baaad and you'll go to hell/jail for it :))
