Hello,

When writing images to dual layer discs using a Plextor PX-740A 1.02 (latest fw), I am getting write errors.

I have tried TDK DVD+R DL media and Memorex DVD+R DL media, but am seeing no difference in results. I am only getting 20% - 30% success with dual layer writes.

I should mention that the system I am using is stable, but I did check some things that could be the cause such as hard disk transfer rate, cpu utilization, firmware revision and everything is working as expected.

As it stands I suspect a bad drive or if perhaps I have yet to try a media that will work reliably.

This system has a HP dvd200i which performs flawlessly.

The only write errors I am getting are with the plextor drive.

Software used is Nero and DVD Decryptor.

Can anybody please make suggestions as to what I should do?

Just to reiterate, I have been trying to write ISO images from hard disk to dual layer disc.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

MANY postings at this and other forums indicate that, presently, Verbatim DL DVD+R media is the most reliable. (My own personal experience supports this as well...)

Avoid Nero! Many problems when burning DL DVD-Video. But if the only problem are read errors, then it's not related to the software you are using. You should try to use Verbatim media, or another burner.

Well, you are correct. Not only did verbatim (mitsubishi chemical) media correct the write errors, it increased write performance by almost 300%.

thanks for the advice.
