I get http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-3/974315/error.JPG when i try and compile my dvds, i am using THIS software [Edit of questionable link] to encode them to 720x480, 4mbs, 192kbs, 30 frames per second, when i googled the error some said it was the way the videos were encoded

well i tried tmpgenc but at the same settings the files come out to be like gigabits each, instead of a few hunderd megabits, to get the same size with tmpgenc i have to go down to 1000kbs on the video and it just looks like crap.

and tmpgenc takes like 3 hours to encode 2 movies where the other took 30 min? i thought tmpgenc was supposed to be good software? but its being beat by free software?

The software you've referred to in your link is apparently designed to manage video content which violates our definition of Fair Use. See the Piracy and Copyright section of www.doom9.org/disclaimer.htm for our definition.

In addition, I'd like to point you to Forum Rule #6 (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm). For more on our interpretation of Rule 6 as it relates to such content, please see the announcement at the top of the Newbies forum.

Thanks!
