Does it really matter what disc you use for general data back up? I was going to buy some Ridata 8x dvd+r from Newegg cause they have a deal going on, I dont think it matters between + or - but I dont really know, I know for movies I use +r but everything else what difference does it make as long as the drive can read it?

btw is Ridata (Ritek) a good brand? I know Tayio Yuden is but they are expensive.

If there is any significant difference between +R and -R it's that -R is compliant to DVD Video standards while +R is not! It doesn't matter much nowadays, but the compatibility for older DVD players is definitely higher with -R!

For data I'd say it doesn't matter at all.

Ritek are generally good - I've only had RitekG04 so far (4x) but I guess the RitekG05 (8x) are also good. I always buy Ritek as my standard discs and TY for the special things like my own homemade data/video/pictures which are not recoverable (I also tend to burn such valuable stuff twice, once on Ritek, once on TY)
