Hi. I have been encoding some TV shows that I own into divx avi's and they all turn out with great quality but very low sound volume. I have to crank my computer volume all the way up as well as my speakers to here what they are saying. Is there anyway to increase the volume level that I encode at? I am using the gnot pack and the audio is ripped from the dvd using dvd decrypter. I have search both programs and have found no reference so sound volume any where as well as the other program the gnot use along the way. I have also searched the forum and I didn’t yield any results that seem to apply to this problem.

Thanks

I’m sorry but I just don’t understand what the guide is trying to say. It goes into a lot of technical details but to me it doesn’t actually tell me how to fix the problem. It mentions changing the db but I don’t know where I am to change this in gnot and to what. From the article it is clear that some of you are very serious when it comes to ripping dvd's and making them good but it just leaves me lost and confused. So additional help would be great.

Is your encoded audio mp3?

1) start menu-> Gordian Knot-> Apps-> Besweet
2) Go for Besweet GUI
3) You will see Azid 1, Azid 2, Lame 1, Lame 2 on the right, choose Besweet
4) Load the audio file you want to encode
5) Just choose the preset MP3_for_AVI

if you still feel that's not enough, check "Compress Dynamic Range"

Ok iv load it the file into Besweet and selected the options. Now how to i get it to output the file so that i can use it?

Can you see a button "ac3 to mp3" on the right hand side, that's the button

Try with settings without "compress dynamic range" first, encode and stop after a while play it with any mp3 player, if you are satisfied, then encode the whole track. If you still think the vol. is too low, then use "compress dynamic range"

Have you taken a look at Doom9's Audio Guides (http://www.doom9.org/audio-guides.htm) or Killingspree's sticky at the top of the Newbies page?

umh....OK, never mind, don't use besweet GUI, use belight instaed

http://corecodec.org/projects/belight/

It's not available in the guide

Get BeLight Beta version 0.22 beta 8

It's a much more friendly program, just load the file

use this settings
Dynamic compression = Normal

Besweet OTA
Mode = Hybrid Gain

Advanced settings
LFE to LR : -3db (Default)
Output Mode : Stereo

Thanks using BeLight has certainly made the audio tracks louder. I would like to increase the volume further but ill try and understand what all the articles are saying to achieve this.

If still not enough, go to "advanced settings" Check "normalize to 100%"

If you are not satisfied, apply heavy dynamic compression

quote from guide
3. What's the difference between normalization and dynamic range compression?

Normalization applies gain to all the audio, essentially multiplying everything by a common factor in order to max out the use of the 16 bits you have in most wav files. Normalization preserves the dynamics of the original recording, meaning that the relationship between loud and soft stays the same, except that everything is now louder by the same factor.

Dynamic range compression basically amplifies softer parts more than louder parts, to bring soft and loud closer together and lessen the contrast between, say, explosions and background music.

Thanks for all the help, a lot of advanced users on forums don’t tolerate people who aren’t at the same level as themself very well.
