VCD/SVCD Tutorial [Archive]

As a complete newcomer to making VCDs and SVCDs I am baffled by the technical terms and the procedure. I have an .avi file which I would like to make into a vcd or an svcd using Nero but that programme shuts down as soon as the test section starts. I suspected that I might not have the right codec and I downloaded Xvid. Now I am even more confused than ever. I opened the programme and it is completely meaningless.

Can someone point me to a tutorial or perhaps provide me with an easy to read explanation of where I start and what to do?

www.doom9.org has plenty of guides in that matter; you should read them. Why you post in the XviD forum when you want to know about VCD/SVCD is beyond me. Make sure to re-read the forum rules again please :)

You need to get The FilmMachine, it can turn an AVI into VCD, SVCD or DVD and does it all automatic and uses a top encoder, CCE. Check out its home page at http://members.home.nl/thefilmmachine/
