Recover data from bad camcorder disc

I have a miniDVD-r disc that a friend recorded on a Hitachi camcorder. She has asked me to see if I can recover the video (it is video from the day her son was born). When I put the disc in my burner (Lite-On 411S) it spins and WinXP reads it as a blank recordable disc. When I open decrypter or try another drive, everything says it is empty. By looking at the disc, however, you can see that it has been burned. I have tried ISObuster and it says that there is one open session with 4 tracks. I have tried to extract using ISObuster but it keeps hanging or I get a .tao file that I don't know what to do with. I tried using decrypter's "Close >> Track/Sessions/Disc" function but nothing happens.

To get more answers better move this to one of the DVD authoring forums - this section is about DV (a mostly tape-based video format). Your problem is a pure DVD recording/authoring/ripping issue, doesn't matter the DVD came from a camcorder.

However, from a similar problem I recently had with a DVD from a standalone recorder, I'd say try it on another computer with another DVD recorder and/or try DVD Fab decrypter and then check back in Explorer and see if you can read the contents. I don't know what step of the above helped in my case, but after trying Fab decrypter (which didn't work) with another burner (Pioneer A06) I was able to read the contents of the disc in Explorer and make a new, standards compliant DVD.

I had success in a similar situation (Sony camcorder, disc not closed) with cdroller (http://cdroller.com/).
