does anyone knows any guide which can assist me in converting dvd (mpeg-2) to wmv backups?

Try FairUse + ffdshow (WMV 8) !

wmv8 quality sucks, even wmv9 cant beat xvid imho, so i wouldnt use it

i just answered to your proposal of using wmv8
