I have some videos with flv extension (flash). How can i convert these files into avi or mkv?

I use ffmpeg. "ffmpeg -i video.flv -acodec copy -vcodec copy output.avi". The framerate will be 1000 fps and full of null frames, since flv is often vfr. (Muxing to mkv will remove them.) From there you can mux it to whatever. Very fast, no re-encoding.
Alternately, there are a number of all-in-one programs that will re-encode it to mjpeg, divx, dvd, or whatever you want.

i use flash to video encoder (http://www.geovid.com/Flash_To_Video_Encoder). it can also convert flash to mpeg, asf, wmv and i guess other formats too (depends on codecs installed on you pc)
