Currently, I have a multitude of HDTV shows, as well as movies, that are in .TS format. I've been having some difficulty finding an economic and practical way to output my media to my new Samsung HDTV. I've done a bit of Googling and searching and came across this product from iOData:

What I would like to be able to do is to have a large external harddrive, connected to my network, and to stream my .TS files, to a piece of hardware which would play it on my HDTV. All my media is 1080i or 720p, which my TV is capable of. Would this product allow me to do what I desire? Any suggestions? Also, I believe there is a program out there that merges .ts files, as well as another program that converts it to MPEG2. [HDTV2MPEG, I believe] Forgive my plebian nature to all this HDTV stuff, or if I posted this in the wrong forum. From all the other threads I've read, you all seem like experts, and any help or advice would be appreciated!

Give VLC (VideoLan Client) a try, works very well with my 37'' LCD-TV by using the DVI-connection of my Graphiccard.
And VLC is able to receive and to send videostreams.

Unfortunately, I do not have DVI out on my laptop. :(

SeeMoreDigital started a really informative thread on these styles of players.

Dunno if the Avelink plays HD Mpeg2 specifically.

Lots of apps available to convert/merge TS files. ProjectX is my personal favorite. I've had the best results with ProjectX, but as always, YMMV.

Kika - I agree - VLC is great for that purpose.

There are quite a few high-def capable stand-alone players (some with DVI/HDMI output connections), based around Sigma's EM8620L chip-set that are able to play PAL and NTSC MPEG-2, MPEG-4 (and WMV9) sources at 1920x1080/88 and 1280x720.

All the players I'm aware of support the .TS, .MPG and .M2T containers ;)

Playback quality is superb....
