Since the release of PMP Mod a few days ago, it is now possible to play back XviD encoded video with MP3 sound, in the PMP container format (muxer is included with PMP Mod).

Now, tests have shown that bitrates above 1500kbit give slowdowns. I'm using Robot4rip and GordianKnot to convert my DVD's to XviD, but I can't limit the max bitrate. It's greyed out in the profiles and I can't seem to edit them.

Another question: is there another, more automatic and user-friendly way to encode a DVD into an XviD AVI and MP3 file than GordianKnot ? AutoGK gives some problems and muxes it too, which means demuxing and remuxing :(

This is also quite frustrating:

17:20:01: Started Xvid - First Pass: C:\DVD\Projects\DFW_HERO_NL_VTS_02_PGC1\DFW_HERO_NL.avs
18:25:44: Finished Xvid - First Pass: Duration: 1 uur, 5 minuten, 42 seconden.
18:25:44: Trying to open Log-file.
18:25:44: Success: Log-file open.
18:25:44: Encoded: 141975 Frames.
18:25:44: Speed: 36.009 Frames per Second.
18:25:45: New target size = 877373 Kb
...
19:54:14: Done.
19:54:14: Movie = C:\DVD\Projects\DFW_HERO_NL_VTS_02_PGC1\DFW_HERO_NL.avi
Total Encoding Time: 2 uren, 34 minuten, 12 seconden.
5/01/2006 19:54:14: Job " 1 - DFW_HERO_NL.avi" finished.

Problem = the avi file is 99.997.696 bytes or 97.654 Kb... It's the full movie at mega low bitrate ! Why does it say "New target size = 877373 Kb" than ?!

If your output resolution is too small, then you cannot reach the desired file size. But I'm not sure this is the case...

The resolution is 480x272, I also choose the Portable PAL profile, which seems to fit best.

Open the XVID VfW dialog from VirtualDub for example and hit Load Defaults. Then try to encode the movie again or just a small part of it for test.
