View Full Version : Playing 50fps x264 in VMR9 Renderless

Hi all,

I encoded 50fps (bobbed) x264 videos, and when i play them in mpc, vmr9 renderless, i get only about 42fps, so its a little choppy. when i play in overlay or vmr9 windowed, it works fine. any thoughts?

its definitely not lack of pc power, only 50% cpu load. using latest x264 and ffdshow. the problem does not happen with 25fps, nor with any other codec.

What is the CPU load when the file plays fine? It may be far fetched, but an exact 50%, in a dual core scenario, means the decoder maxes out (and since ffdshow isn't multithreaded, 50% CPU use is as high as it gets)

Try the decoder from my signature

doom9: its ~50% of one core, not both. same load when using vmr9 windowed :)

sirber: looks good, will definitely try it, but the coreavc download link is down :(

thankyou sirber, much appreciated. will post results

it worked, playing at 50fps, much less cpu load too :)

guess its an ffdshow problem. really hope this is fixed, i have a phobia of pre-pre-pre-alpha's :P

thankyou sirber and doom9 :)

sirber, did you know of this problem, or did you guess? cause maybe ffdshow's devs should be notified (i did a search beforehand, came up empty, so i guessed nobody knew of this)

Actually, could you try playing the clip in Mplayer? It may be an ffmpeg issue, not a ffdshow one.

its ~50% of one core, not bothJust to clarify, you have two cores then? Cos if you do, the percentage taskmanager shows goes over both cores.. a 50% utilization on a dual core system often means one core is maxed out.

I guessed your speed problem was related to ffdshow ;)

doom9: yes, i have a dualcore system, i know task manager calculates the % value from both cores. but the 50% value i mentioned was just from one core. if i had played a higher resolution file, it would've been maybe 70% of one core :)

rushin_911: will do ;)

sirber: thanks, i nearly fainted when i saw how little power it takes. what problems does the decoder have? seemed to work fine for me, if not slightly lower quality :)

i think mpc doesn't support vmr9 renderless in yv12.
