Hi all. I don't know if this is the right forum to post this but here goes anyways. I'm trying to find a program (hopefully a free one) to extra clips off DVDs and convert to MPEG in DVD quality i.e. HQ 8000kbps. However I can only mainly find programs that extract clips and convert to DivX, VCD or SVCD and I don't want that. I tried with one of them to adjust the bitrate to 8000kbps and the size to 720x576 PAL and yeah it worked, however when comparing the clip to the DVD it looks inferior as there's a bit of pixelisation when there's fast motion so I assume it's still effectively SVCD quality and it automatically sets the field order to A which is wrong for my TV so I'm not happy. So I was wondering if anyone knows of a good DVD to DVD quality MPEG converter software around?

Cheers
Troy

Hi!

MPEGCutter (MPEG2Cut.exe) or ChopperXP are two possibilities - no conversion necessary...

VOB2MPG (http://www.svcd2dvd.com/releases/VOB2MPG.zip) will do what you need with no re-encoding.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Unfortunately those programs haven't been much help, the MPEGCutter only cuts mpegs and not vobs, the ChopperXP does a good job at cutting vobs but doesn't convert them to mpeg and VOB2MPEG did a rotten job at converting the vob to mpeg as on playback it seemed to go crazy on playback by jerking and chop out frames and the audio was popping and clicking, well it just simply played very bad.

I can't believe it's so hard to find a decent vob to mpeg converter. I'm running out of ideas.

MPEG2Cut.exe certainly WILL cut .VOBs and allow you tosave the out put as MPEG. Perhaps you've obtained a different program. The correct one can be obtained at:

Hi

Actually a VOB(Video Object File) is a MPEG2 stream som you can demux them in any Demuxing program. eg. rejig(gui) or dvdauthor(commandline), or any other demuxer and mux them together in a Mpeg2 system stream. TMpegEnc has god muxing capabilities (Just download the tmpegenc from doom9 download page).

PS: I've used the DGIndex demuxer last time I've demuxed a DVD which works fine.
