DVD Shrink, how to know which Dolby 2.1 English are which?

I notice sometimes in DVD Shrink, it shows multiple Dolby 2.1 English entries. Sometimes like 3 or 4 of them.

I know some are Directors cut audios, some I don't know what the hell they are.

Is there a way to know which is which? I tried previewing them in the DVD Shrink viewer but it makes no difference which one is selected or if any are selected for that matter. The sound is always the same.

Once I just picked a couple to get rid of. After burning the movie, I found I got rid of the wrong ones, the only sound I got was the Directors audio! I had to do it all over again!

I always choose the Dolby English 5.1 and DTS English 5.1 (if it's there). I also found that at least one Dolby English 2.1 also has to be selected because if you don't, there will be no sound on a system that doesn't have 5.1 capability (a digital connection).

Anyway, I sure would like to know how to distinguish between the multiple Dolby 2.1 English entries.

Nevermind, someone just pointed out to my dumb ass what I had not seen. Simply play the movie in DVD Shrink preview pane, right click there and select "audio". The list is right there and in the same order. I went down the list and each one played as labeled. Very nice. Sometimes the stuff you miss is right there in front of you! Jeez.

I always pick 5.1 and on my parents DVDplayer it is connected for sound via the old red/white sterero and plays fine, never knew there could be an issue?

Sometimes there is no 2.1 option or sometimes it's combined in the 5.1.

I have seen times though where not selecting any 2.1 option, the movie would play fine in my 5.1 set up but would have no sound in my daughter's room where her DVD was hooked directly to the TV with no digital capabilities.

No, that's incorrect. As far as I know, virtually every standalone DVD player will automatically downmix 5.1 .AC3 audio to 2 channel output.

On the other hand, unless you have a DTS-equipped audio system, you may very well get silence if you select the DTS audiostream for playback...

No, that's incorrect. As far as I know, virtually every standalone DVD player will automatically downmix 5.1 .AC3 audio to 2 channel output.

Well all I know is that one time removing all Dolby 2.1 resulted in no sound on my daughter's TV. Same thing on her computer where she doesn't have the speakers hooked up through a digital output on the sound card. Is there something I didn't do?

Did you try selecting a different audiostream from either the DVD onscreen menu or your remote control?

Sounds like when you removed the 2.0 stream it was the default track. You can do as setarip suggests, or you can use IfoEdit of PGCEdit to adjust the ifo to make one of the other tracks play when you insert the disc so you don't have navigate the menu each time.

Color me ignorant, but...

I've had some of the same issues w/ audio. I normally remove all menus, subtitles, etc. in Shrink, and also only pick English AC3 5.1 for my Audio.

I noticed that when played through a stereo TV only, some movies seem to be only giving me the R/L front channels on the output. No dialogue can be heard, just background music and sound effects.

If I select to keep 5.1 and stereo audio when I reauthor, but have no disc menu to access which audio I want to select, does anyone know if the player will default to one or the other?

2) You can still use your remote to select either audiostream
