Hello and happy new year

I have a problem and i am not sure if i am to blame my hardware.

I tried to play a xvid and a divx movie on the following setup

Pentium 3 800Mhz
384MB ram
MB EliteGroup P6BAP-A+ (Rev 2.2)
GeForce 2 MX 400 64MB
Soundblaster Live
Win XP Pro

when a divx or xvid movie plays, although the sound is normal there is a delay in video. (video plays in loow fps - 15-20 fps).

I use MPlayer classic 6.4.8.5 and ffdshow (2002).
Could this be a problem because of my software or my drivers? (i use the latest drivers) or should i send this PC to the museum :P

PS. Other video format files (in lower bitrates) play just fine. Plus I think that the pc could play divx and xvid sometime

PS.2.I have made every tweak in windows xp so as to free up resources but i saw no difference

Thanks in advance :)

Did u meant delay or jerky? Cause theyīre not the same. Delay means a track (audio, video, subs, etc..) is playing late compared with another track to wich it should be synched. Jerky means that the video or audio play with cuts, like a frame forzen then an abrupt jump to another frame where movement hasnīt been done fluently, or audio getting cut every now and then.
If your video is playing later than the audio, itīs delayed, if itīs playing all cutted, itīs jerky.
If the rendering is jerky, then iīm sorry to say that even with 384 RAM and a graphic accelerator your machine might be coming a little short on power to render DivX and XviD at certain bitrates while working OK on lower ones (specially if youīre running Win XP, might play just fine on Win 98).
Try to set ffdshow to Postprocessing --> Presets (Full) --> Automatic Quality Control: Enabled (it iīll prevent your PC from choking when the processing needs exceed the capabilities of your machine, by lowering the postprocessing amount).
If the video is delayed then u should check the structure of the video, container, rendering filters configs, etc. and player options.

try updating software : mpc goes to 6.4.87 and a more recent ffdshow build

disable any post processing

next
try with mplayer / videolanclient
try with a low resource player like crystalplayer

hope that helps
