Some ASP support in Quicktime 7?

I've been looking lately into XviD in MP4 lately since full-screen H.264 but has issues for people on slower machines (though ffdshow seems to be able to get down to 800mhz or so).

Couldn't get mencoder in meGUI to work, so I compressed with VirtualDub and extracted and remuxed using YAMB. It opened fine in QT, but had some stuttering.

Now I did this before I searched this forum and encoded using ASP level 5 with b-frames and packed bitstream and all of that. Not sure which XviD version I had at the time, but didn't have any of those cinema profiles and such yet. Also, this project doesn't need audio, so it is just a video track. Was a 80 0bitrate with 2-pass encoding.

After looking around on here, I saw mention of Quicktime only supporting SP and giving errors on any use of ASP. But mine didn't have any errors, just a non-smooth playback. I don't have 3vix installed. Just ffdshow and haali media splitter, along with Koepi's XviD vfw filter. What's up with that? Does QT now partially support ASP in version 7? Should I try tweaking the settings a bit to attempt smoother playback or should I just stick with SP?

the qt decoder definitely doesnt support asp features

in qt6 the qt mp4 demuxer blocked every mp4 file indicating asp. in qt7 this might have changed, but when i try to open a fine full asp mp4 file (b-frames, qpel, gmc, cqm...) qt tells me it contains some errorish data or so...

might be there is a feature triggering that error message and if you dont use it the file opens, still i would say there is no chance the qt mpeg-4 decoder can play such a file correctly
