Hi all. I've gone through quite a few coasters before consulting this forum so hopefully I'll find what I'm looking for. I used gui4ffmpeg to convert my DVD copy of Fight Club into XviD and burned with Nero to the root of a data CD-R. I'm using Verbatim media and burning at the slowest speed possible. I made sure that disc is finalized and not multi-session and verified. I'm trying to play the disc on my Philips DVP 642/37 DVD Player which plays DivX / XviD. When I try to play the XviD disc the screen goes black and the display counter on the DVP just shows 00:00 and stays like that. I've heard of stuff like Q-Pel and GMC but I'm not sure where those fit into this process. Does anybody know a correct way to encode (or re-encode it) to XviD so that the DVP 642 can play it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

avi.NET - it's top priority is to make an AVI that will play on standalones.

nothing like a little self promotion is there. :D
of course if you had just :search: and you could have found answers on standalone playback limits aswell.

and the problem is?
avi.NET's top priority *IS* standalone playback, always has been, always will be.

and xvid has profiles also for that reason aswell and as i said if martindcx1e had bothered to use search(as persuant forum rule 1a) he would have found out what settings can cause problems etc anyway, since its been discussed many times.
and the problem is?
problem with what ? i think i just said what the problem with his post was. or are you a bit touchy having a gentle poke(notice the smiley ?) about mentioning your own program ?

Hi!
A couple of very basic questions:
1) Does the burned CD play on your PC?
2) What extender did you give to the XviD filename?
3) Are you sure your Philips 642/37 (I have one) recognizes the brand of CD media you are using?
And a suggestion:
You might want to try burning the CD in NERO's "UDF/ISO" mode...
