Damaged VOBs and XVID

I have tried ripping a DVD to my computer but whenever I do so and try to convert it using Gordian Knot I get some strange errors and the resulting file appears to consist only of keyframes.

The first error I get is when I tried to extract the Subtitles using VobSub. This gave me the error "Bad packet header found, do you want to continue?". This error appears several times around the half way point of the film. Here is the list:

The next strange thing I have noticed is after the processing (I'm not sure at what exact point these appear) a series of new files appear in the VOB directory, these are:

VTS_01_0.chunks
VTS_01_1.srm
VTS_01_2.srm
VTS_01_3.srm
VTS_01_4.srm
VTS_01_5.srm
VTS_01_6.srm
VTS_01_7.srm

The only other thing I have noticed about this film is that when playing it through mplayer still in VOB form I noticed that it would play in English and German on all but one of the VOB files that would only play in English.

I would be grateful if someone could tell me how to go about getting round this problem. If you need any other information, I will be happy to post it.

did you try another Ripper e.g. DVDFab Decrypter?

No I used VOBCopy for Linux both times because that is the only Linux program I know how to use, and the only DVD drive I have is in my Linux PC. I was assuming the problem was with the disk rather than the decrypter program as I have decrypted disks before without any problems.
