View Full Version : Want to encode Vob's to mpg

I have ripped some dvd's using DVD Decrypter. I only want to use some of the vob's to make my compilation disk. A couple of the vob's only show approximately 30 or so seconds using various media players yet they play for 25 minutes. When I add these ones into MainConcept mpeg Encoder to convert to mpg it only converts the 30 seconds yet the other vob's that appear ok do convert ok so I am doing things correctly. Does anyone have a solution to encode the full files?

Maybe make a compilation with DVD Shrink in re-author mode - see http://www.dvdshrink.info/compilation.php

Then simply change the file extension from VOB to MPG (as VOBs are MPEG-2 files)

Just to clarify, I want to pull a half hour episode off 6 dvd's and put these 6 episodes on one dvd. Will dvd Shrink do this?

Yes, in "Re-author" mode, as previously stated by "blutach"...

I have followed the suggestions about compiling episodes to make 1 dvd. Using Dvd Shrink I have renamed the vobs to .mpg and then using Nero Vision Express v3.1.0.0 (as I want to make menus) when I click Add Files I select the ones I want to add but nothing else happens. This is also the case for files that I ripped by Dvd Decrypter. Trying to Add Files mpg and avi that I had gotten from other sources they do get added to my project screen ok, so my proceedure is ok but not from any result of my ripped sources. Is there something that I've missed please?

peppi--This latest request of yours falls nicely under the umbrella of your original thread; I've merged the two. This will serve to keep all of the information together in a more cohesive presentation and will also add the bonus of having everyone that dropped in to help you the first time around receive an e-mail notification that there's new information in the thread.

YES!!!! There is a known problem with Nero VE sometimes not loading mpg's. Ahead released a patch for xp sp2.

http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/Patch_for_NVE3.html

The problem I now have is that my files are 5.7gb therefore Nero VE is no good for this. What program can I use to burn 6 files (5.7gb) either mpg or vob to dvd format with menu's. They are b/w so quality would not be an issue. Keep in mind that some have different resolutions, a reason why they can't be used in TMPG Author.

How is it possible that "some have different resolutions"?Probably means the proper viewing aspect of the movie.

I'd suggest using TMPGEnc DVD Author. However I've never used it with vob-files directly, only my own re-encoded versions, but it should work, and it can handle different aspect ratios. It's also good with menu's.

As I wrote previously TMPGEnc Dvd Author won't accept mpg's of differing resolutions together. Because I ripped these episodes off many dvd's the resultant files are: 352x480, 720x480, 704x480 and some PAL and some NTSC.

I certainly did use DVD Decrypter and these are the sizes that resulted. I have a solution that I will post shortly.

Well, if I'm mistaken, please accept my apology. I'm always anxious to learn something new. Would you please explain how you use DVD Decrypter to rip a DVD at 352x480, or 704x480?

I use dvd decrypter in File mode and Bang! there they are. These are already episodic dvd's that someone has made from tv shows. Some dvd's rip at 704x480 ntsc, some at 352x576 pal, others at 720x480 ntsc etc. and I want to get a mix and put them on 1 disc. Why the shock?
