View Full Version : FlaskMPEG "abnormal program termination"

I have been using FlaskMPEG 6 preview to successfully convert VOBs to AVIs. I uninstalled FlaskMPEG 6 and tried to install FlaskMPEG 078-39 and get a dialog box titled "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library". The dialog box contains the path to the Flask executable, and the message "abnormal program termination"

I have Googled for this and found several references to the problem but no solutions. There was one German site that I think said "go muck around the registry and see if your can fix the problem" but I'm not that brave.

I have searched this forum and can't find a reference to the problem. Can anyone offer a solution?

Thanks.

Hi!

The following post at another forum may offer a solution:

Welcome to the Forum:

Take a look at this solution (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=15792&goto=nextoldest), it's old, but it may be just what you're looking for.

I was excited when I read the post, but my problem Dialog box appears when I try to launch the executable, and I get the error message before anything installs, so I have no Program File entries for Flask.

That being the case, you might want to try downloading that same version of Flask from a different source than you originally used...

Turns out Flask v078_39 is Beta. I downloaded and installed version 0594 without a problem. So I guess I need to be more carefull about installing "Betaware".

Thanks for the tip.

Not that there's anything wrong with v.594 (I use v.594PX3 myself), but I'm curious to know why you didn't simply re-install v.6 preview, that you indicated you had previously been (successfully) using?

BTW, for a faster and somewhat simpler tool, you might want to try MPEGMediator or MPEGMediator Special Edition (You can find a download link in the "signature" of any post made by "SeeMoreDigital")...

A quote from the digital-diget.com web site:

http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/showsoftware_flaskmpeg_8.html

flaskmpeg_0594.exe
Description: Download FlasK MPEG Encoder stable version - alternate link
File Size: 793 KB

flaskmpeg_060_preview.exe
Description: Download FlasK MPEG Encoder preview version - alternate link. You may need thunder.mism below to have "Open DVD"/IFO and "DVD Mode" (opens multiple VOB files as 1 logical file) support
File Size: 1.38 MB

Flaskv6_preview1_1.exe
Description: Download FlasK MPEG Encoder preview version 1.1 - needs preview version above installed prior - overwrite files in FlasK MPEG directory with these new ones (not an official version, but compiled from CVS) - you may need thunder.mism below to have "Open DVD"/IFO and "DVD Mode" (opens multiple VOB files as 1 logical file) support
File Size: 1.38 MB

From looking at this web site (and others) I concluded I might be better off with something called a "stable version". I'm interested in using the product, not dealing with the test and development cycle.

Is the preview version "stable" and ready for prime time?

Is the preview version "stable" and ready for prime time? I have no idea. As I stated previously, I use v.594PX3. I was basing my question on your original statement that:I have been using FlaskMPEG 6 preview to successfully convert VOBs to AVIs.

I guess I had second thoughts about "version 6 preview" since the statement attached to v0594 said it was "the stable one". I'd rather be a little behind the bleeding edge if that means I won't have to struggle with getting things to work. So I thought I'd just go back a version to v0594, and wait until v7x is touted to be "stable". I do appreciate your help and comments.
