View Full Version : Moving from GK to AutoGK : I'm getting confused...

Hi!

I'd like to give AutoGK 2.26 a try. I am a *experienced* user of the old and good GK.

I'm getting a bit confused to start the DVD to xvid conversion. Do I really need DVDDecrypter? I'm asking the question because on the Doom guide, it seems required.

But on the other hand I ripped a DVD yesterday, just by selecting the DVD .ifo file from AutoGK, without decrypting it to my HD. I am used to the GK way of doing a conversion. And with AutoGK things get easier but a bit unclear honestly. (sorry for that). Is AutoGK 2.26 a *real* one clik solution? Or do I need to use DVDDecrypter as the #1 step?

Today I tried to rip the Incredibles for my little boy before he damages too much the DVD. But when I select the DVD .ifo, I have an error :

too many pictures per GOP...

That's why I'm asking if I need to use DVDDecrypter! DVDDecrypter doesn't seem to have any problem ripping this DVD.

One last thing guys:
how can we control the xvid compression settings uses by AutoGK? (let's say bvop, quarter pixel, turbo...) And is there a compression settings log?

Thanks for your help. :sly:

Doesn't the tutorial clear all this questions? I wished having such a detailed tutorial for StaxRip. ;)

Not really:

You'll need the following software for this guide

AutoGK 1.0+
DVD Decrypter

It's not really a one click solution...

Your right...just rip the DVD with DVD Decrypter in IFO mode and then run Auto GK. It isn't a one step toll, but pretty close,

So what happened last time? I didn't use DVD Decrypter (and it worked!)

From the official guide : http://www.autogk.me.uk/modules.php?name=TutorialEN
AutoGK comes with almost all that you'll need to create excellent quality backups of your DVDs.

AutoGK *used* to require DVD Decrypter as the first step in the cycle because it used to rely on the 'VTS_xx - Stream Information.txt' generated by DVD Decrypter to gather the needed information about the input VOBs. But now (for the last few builds) AutoGK has its own IFO parser module and so it doesn't need DVD Decrypter anymore. But I wouldn't advise encoding directly from the DVD, because you are going to make your DVD-ROM drive spin the whole of the time you are encoding, which could be 6-12 hours.

And you cannot control any of the compression settings of XviD, *except* cartoon mode, credits compression using zones (only 1 zone is allowed), greyscale encoding and usage of a sharp matrix regardless of the comp test (all under Hidden Options). You cannot control B-VOP, QPEL, Turbo etc.

Thanks, I thought I was going crazy! Let's say that the AutoGK IFO parser doesn't seem as good as DVD Decrypter. Thank you again.
