in the 5 days of waiting before i could post here, i searched the forums to find what i was doing wrong. I got a dvd rip to come out perfect, except the fact that it is upsidedown. up until now i've used VLC player to just display the image flipped over, but i still have the uncompressed files. Vdubmod did successfully flip the movie, but then promptly threw the audio off. Now, mind you, i've been reading the forums, and found multiple threads referencing some problem with RGB values or some such, but i stress that i am a complete noob with this, and cant even figure out how to get ffdshow to work. I mean, i installed it, chose to flip the image in the console, and tried to re-encode the .avi, but it didn't work. I'm just confuzzled *shrug*.

However, i'm also not in any hurry, so i now ask you people, what the crap i'm doing wrong. oh, and try and be descriptive with how to fix the problem, cus i really don't know what i'm doing. i just made the video by following your auto GK guide as closely as possible. I used divx 3 and all that.

in case you need it, i did this on a laptop with a radeon 9700 mobility and a 2.8 ghz HT processor. I don't know what else you need for info, but thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forum,

i just made the video by following your auto GK guide as closely as possible. I used divx 3 and all that.

AutoGK doesn't create DivX 3.11 AVIs. Are you saying the source was a DivX 3.11 AVI? If you're not sure what it is, then open it in GSpot to find out. I've never heard of AutoGK creating an upside down video from a DVD source. I have, however, heard of DivX 3.11 sources being turned upside down when being reencoded.

If that's the case (DivX 3.11 AVI source), then you won't be able to reencode it using AutoGK, I don't think. Your best bet might be to reencode it via the more fully featured Gordian Knot, and flipping it by editing the .avs file it creates to add the line FlipVertical(). There are also guides on this site for GKnot.

Hi!

1) What software and procedures did you use to rip your original, purchased DVD?

2) Are you saying that the DVD "rip" itself plays upside down, or that only after converting to DivX-compressed .AVI the video plays upside down?

3) What is your operating system?

I used robot4rip release .5 build 1090 to decrypt.

I then used Gordian Knot rippack with GK version 0.35.0

I followed the tutorial here: www.doom9.org/gknot-main2.htm

It is upsidedown ONLY after converting to the divx-compressed .avi.

3) What is your operating system?

windows XP professional.

oh, heh, i guess i'm not using AutoGK, just GK...

sooo maybe i should try the auto program..

EDIT - I started using the AutoGK program. In the AutoGK tutorial, it shows "input directory", however the program instead has an "input file". What is this "input file" i should put here?

and, is there any way to see a percent progress with AutoGk once it has started running?

Yeah, you said you used the AutoGK guide in the first post.

What happens if you open the finished AVI in VDubMod? Is it upside down in there?

If it is, then you can reencode in GKnot adding the FlipVertical() line at the bottom of the GKnot created .avs as I mentioned in my earlier reply. If it's not upside down in VDubMod, then it's a playback issue.

What is the Title and Region of the DVD?
Is it that several different players play the .AVI upside-down, or does only one specific player do this?

it's upsidedown in everything i play it in. vdubmod, wmp, vlc, BSplayer, etc etc.

buuuuuuuuuuuut, i fixed the problem by downloading and installing AutoGK, which make a perfect backup for me with much less work than before. :-D

I say, problem solved! (by avoiding the problem entirely)
