simple question cut-mpeg save -> avi, how? (vdubmod)

I have a mpeg-file and I just used vdubmod to cut it.

Now I have a result ready for saving.
But when I use f7 and direct stream copy, the outcome is bloated from
700MB to 5 Gig!
So I say, okay I want to save it as a xvid-file.
Then vdmod says it cannot be done? It needs some stats file or something?

Then I chose normal recompress (is this correct?) and choose
the xvid codec in options. But that als o doe snot work.

How do I save the mpeg2 into an xvid file???

Simpy choosing XviD is not enough. You also have to adjust all settings in it, e.g.,
bitrate, how many passes, etc
