Doh. Out of curiosity, what's consuming most of the bandwidth?

I'll take a wild guess and say it's because avisynth and avisynth filters that are hosted on the site are becoming more and more popular.

Only (some) filters are hosted there; AviSynth itself is hosted by sourceforge.

Even then, the filters are usually pretty small. I'm curious if downloads are distributed fairly uniformly across various files or if there are a handful of files that are responsible for 90% of the traffic.

ACK! Thought it was a 24hr limitation.
Of course it had to happen now when I have some time to try out a few things and need some more filters.

Seems I'll have to wait for Sunday to find out if it's a month/year thing.

Thought the size of the filters being so small wouldn't exceed any bandwidth on a decent hosting service as well.

For grins I tried an ftp and see other users are getting in? Could be an alias domain on the same service?

Regardless.. couldn't get in that way.

Anyway... looks like a mirror is needed and I have space and bandwidth to spare.

Bandwidth limitation exceeded is on a monthly basis and as soon as that server rolls around to midnight Jan 1 it will open up again. The site exceeded its bandwidth almost a week ago now (5 or so days) so I suspect it was the increase popularity coupled with the holidays (all those people sitting at home grabbing stuff and editing).

If this continues they may have to pay for more bandwidth.

Again.. I'd be happy to help split the load with a mirror on one of my sites.
Guess we'll wait and see how January goes.

I've been trying to go through the links provided by the authors and of course the ones I need have obsolete links. *sigh*

Could p2p sharing (bittorrent, emule ...) be a solution for some files ???

bittorrent probably wouldn't be useful for filters, which are usually pretty small, and I tend not to trust programs downloaded over kazaa/emule-like P2P networks (although I suppose avisynth.org could host md5 sums, but that all sounds like more trouble than it's worth).

If you're talking about the video sample hosting that Richard's been offering (which I had forgotten about), maybe, although those typically are one-offs and probably wouldn't be suitable for p2p sharing either. (Could that be what's consuming all the bandwidth?)

I dunno but for over a week I have been trying to get the fft3 filter that will use my GPU and all links go to the bandwidth eaten site.

I know I checked at 12:01 as I need that filter that is on there.

I did a little searching and see that site is being virtually hosted so either the virtual host is having issues, avisynth really did use that much B/W, or they (like some other sites I have seen) have been a victim to bandwidth thieves who purposedly try to get virtual hosted sites to exceed their bandwidth (which is normally paid on a monthly basis).

I looked at the domain info as well.
If it's right, the minimum plan on that hosting site is 8GB.

Guess the owner can only tell who/what is consuming it all.

Many people tried, but I was "unplugged."

Not worried it will come but we really do need to get a mirror site or 2.
If someone has an idea for how to arrange this, I'd be happy to work with him. Database-driven parts like the main avisynth.org wiki would be hard to mirror, but that's less important than plugin downloads since you can always get a copy of the CHM help file from sourceforge, or an old version of the web pages at archive.org.

For whoever's interested, avisynth.org/warpenterprises currently requires about 40MB of space and 10GB/mo bandwidth. The latter figure accounts for about half of all traffic (in bytes, not hits, obviously) to the websites I run. Stickboy: the statistics you want have been recorded, at least since moving to the current host in Sept '05. Making them publicly viewable is on my todo list -- Fizick and others have been wanting this for a long time -- have to put out fires first...

Thanks Richard for being there. Early 2005 (right after the holidays) I noticed my entire game site I had for my old guild was removed by some script kiddie. Luckily it was tied down enough to only let him (whenever he did it) get to it and nothing higher.

So, I feel your pain my man. :)

The "only" remaining problem is that whichever support tech reenabled my account this morning also clobbered my .htaccess file, so PHP is very confused about include paths.
