For highest quality dvd backup which codec options must be use ?
i'm using gknot for my backups, i always prefer 3-pass encoding with insane quality(sometimes using balanced for firstpass and using 0.02 modulation for n'th passes) but i am confused with codec setup
should i use gmc and q-pel? or which quantization matrices i must use "mpeg-2 h.263 optimized" and which option must be used for bidrectional encoding "off,ASC,AMC"
i don't care about space i care about visual quality & close resemblance to source sometimes i use 4.5 mbits for encoding "usually 2-2.5mbits" i want my coded file look exactly like the original file
thank you for any advice

For highest quality dvd backup which codec options must be use ?That question is precariously close to the "do not ask 'what's best'" rule. As far as end quality, nothing can beat a high bitrate. Most other settings are there to optimize quality while reducing bitrate/file size.

i want my coded file look exactly like the original fileThat's simply not going to happen with DivX/XviD. If you want it to look exactly like the original and you don't care about space, don't re-encode it.

when i say i do not care about space i mean i do not care 2 or 3 gigs. for dvd back up i can use 4.5 gigs for one movie. i want to know are there any connection between picture quality and these settings at high bitrates ?
for example when i use high bitrate i shouldn't use insane quality (much compression may degrade visiual quality) and disable gmc&qpel ? or i should use all off them for highest quality?
i just want to know if there is a default setting for this "highest resemblance to source at high bitrates "

Things that matter, High bitrate and encoding speed. You don't want it to rush the job.
