View Full Version : Problem with audio after using AutoGK

I started using AutoGK a couple of weeks ago and at first I was delighted with the results when converting .mpeg to Divx. Previous attempts with other software usually ended up with a poor quality video picture. But AutoGK produced an excellent picture, as good as the original.
One of the reasons that I wanted to convert to DivX was so that I could back-up the files to DVD and at the same time be able to view them through my TV via a standalone player. This seemed a better option than having 2 disks, one for back-up and one for playing in the DVD.
Anyway, after converting the files and having checked them on the computer I burned them onto DVD and CD. The problem is that when I try to play them on my standalone player the picture is excellent but the audio is dreadful; I'm not sure how to describe it other than the sound is not continuous, kinda stuttering. If I play the files on the computer there is no problem.
This has only happened since I started using AutoGK, disks that I had burned previously had no problem with the audio. I have looked at the files using GSpot and the most obvious difference is that the audio track has the words "Lame 3.96" added to it. I am probably being a bit thick and there is a simple answer to this problem but I have tried everything I can think of. If someone could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

If you aren't concerned about file size, try using "Original audio," which will copy the 5.1 surround right to the encode. Your standalone should have no problem with that.

Hy !
Perhaps you should tell,
what setting you have made in the Audio Section of AutoGK.
The hint above is worth a try. :)

What standalone DVD player are you using?
Not an answer but I have done most of my inventory using AutoGK and played them on my Avayon 1000 and Pioneer DV-588a without any problem.
For an experiment could you take the same movie and run it through avi.net and let us know the results. avi.net "prides" themselves on making avi's that will run on all standalone players. Here is their link.

Thanks for responding guys but this just gets more and more weird.
To start with I have tried "Original audio" but the result is the same. I have also tried just about every other audio combination - and they all produce the same result.
My standalone is a Samsung R122 which is on the DivX approved list. I dwl avi.net and installed it, as weaver4 suggested, but the program won't initialise. Either the file was corrupted during dwl or it could be another problem as it is a brand new version (27/12/05). I will try and find the previous version somewhere and try that and get back to you.
Meanwhile if anyone has any other suggestions................. (it's driving me crazy).

If you used "Original audio" your problem is either with the burn or with the standalone. Usually problematic burns affect video before audio, so I'd look into the standalone first.

Can you play non-burned DVDs ok on the standalone with good audio quality?
Cheers!

CWR03, that's what is so weird. I don't think it can be a burn problem because I have burned other files recently, some which were already converted to DivX, and they play perfectly. The problem only seems to appear when I use AutoGK. If I look at the audio on a sample file, with GSpot, the original file says it is MPEG-1 layer 2, after I use original audio in AutoGK it says it is 0x0050(MPEG(MP1/MP2),ISO/IEC) MPEG-1 layer 2. That doesn't mean anything to me but maybe it does to you?
niann, non-burned DVD's and also burned ones from say 3 months ago, play perfectly on my standalone with good audio.

Hi. I hope some of you guys are still watching this thread.
I think that maybe it is a burn problem after all. I have just burned a file already converted into DivX, put it in my standalone expecting it to play normally and zap the audio has gone weird again. The picture is perfect still.
Could it possibly be my burning software? I can't be sure of the timing but I had an OS failure recently and had to completely reinstall Windows. Prior to that I used Nero to burn discs. After the reinstall I couldn't install Nero again (it was originally bundled with the computer) and so I found a freeware prog called CD Burner XP Pro 3. I am really not sure if the problem started when I was still using Nero or after I started using CD Burner, but perhaps it did. Certainly the disks I burned with Nero a few months ago play perfectly.
I suppose the other possibility could be a problem in the computer's system itself. I don't know if it is related but the only media player that I can use at the moment is Windows Media Player. If I try to play a file on the DivX Media Player the audio is okay but the picture is scrambled.
Any help you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated as I really don't know where to go from here.

If, indeed, the problem is being caused by your burning software and you successfully used NERO previously, try downloading a free trial version of the latest NERO from the ahead software website - and see if once again using NERO resolves your dilemma...

Thanks setarip_old. I will try that.
As a postscript to my previous post, I should have said that the problem arises no matter which hardware burner I use (I have 3) on my PC. Also the burned disk plays normally on the PC's drives.
