Adding Chapters

My new SetTop Divx/Xvid player I got for Christmas does not go fast-forward nearly as fast as my old player. Is there someway to take my already existing avi's and add chapter to them lets say every 5 to 10 minutes apart?

The SetTop box is a Pioneer DV-588a.

AVI is a container for your XviD's/DivX's.
AVI files don't support chapters unless your player can support a specific hack for it.

Is your player able to read .mkv files? This container type does support chapters.
You would take all your AVI files and repackage them in the mkv container.
You wouldn't have to re-encode the video, just repackage it.
