DVD drive bollixed by Bewitched disk

I tried to rip the movie Bewitched using DVDDecrypter 3.5.4.0 from my Sony DRU-710A DVD+/-RW drive. DVDD failed, and my drive is now seen as a series of nonsense symbols: Ø|¿n“Gö q"ÆO“mKsø˜â-�ë> . Nero Infotool doesn't see the drive at all, and Sony Drivecheck cannot write to the drive. Until this attempted rip, the drive worked fine. I can still rip other DVD's, or play them, but the drive seems otherwise useless. Attempting to flash the Firmware produces a notice that "no DRU-710A drive is detected", and gives me a drive with the nonsense symbols.

Can anyone help me with this? :scared:

Hi!

Have you tried:

1) Shutting down your system and doing a cold reboot?

or

2) Reinstalling the drive by going to the Control Panel and selecting "Add new hardware"?

Thanks - the cold reboot did it. I feel a bit stupid not to have tried that. This is a sonypictures dvd. I found "How to backup ARccOS™ protected DVDs with DVD Decrypter" by Cynthia on Digital Video Forums. Do you think this may be the ARccOS protection? I lost the DVDD log file when I aborted the read after about 11 retries.

It is indeed ArCCOS protected if it's region 1. Follow Cynthia's guide if you want to go that route and you should be fine. The PGCEdit plugin will also work.

Lol don't you others think that sounds somehow funny btw can you reproduce it ? does a firmware update fixes this problem maybe ?
To me that sounds like as Sony would say "Hey be carefull ripping our Movies on our Drives" :P
