DivX Browser Plug-In Beta 1 is out

Hi folks,

We've just made a Beta release of the new DivX Browser Plug-In on DivX Labs. This new one has been reworked from scratch from the ActiveX experiment we made last year and now works in all major browsers (on Windows for now).

Go check out the post on DivX Labs for sample pages that use trailers from divx.com to try it out if you want:

There is also a "Webmaster SDK" download for those of you that are curious about how to embed DivX video in HTML pages and want to play with it more.

You also should remember the users that only till 2008 streaming of DivX is free :)
that was one clouse in the MPEGLA license i think

i just realized that the Plugin doesn't stream the content but downloads it entirely before playback so the MPEGLA license won't count here :P

No, it definitely streams the content. The plug-in has an option to wait until the entire movie is downloaded first. But the default behaviour is to stream the video.

Did you guys even try any of the demos on the DivX site?

Can it play dual audio and subtitles ??

lets clear this up from what i understand this is not streaming as such but rather enables viewers to view the video whilst the rest of the video is progressively downloaded.

What this means to me is that whilst people are downloading divxs or avi's that are stored on a webserver they can watch what they have downloaded thus far.

This is great for hosting pre produced content but not a replacement for live realtime streaming.

I tried the plugin, but I was dissapointed with one thing: I won't accept XviD video. But if I just change the FourCC to DX50 it will play. The only limitation is GMC, which won't work.
Another problem is seeking. My test movies are not seekable, but the one from plugin SDK (kittens) is. Is it the DIVX container, what makes the difference? Are there any free tools to produce such videos?
