ok so i read all the FAQs and i thought i had a handle on this but since the latest xvid encoded files have played w/ this odd interlacing problem im starting afresh. now...this may seem like a newb question and that i should read the faq but i did and it didnt help. what do i download and install now that i have zero codecs on my computer to watch xvids. will everything run smoothly if i only download VLC at the proper quality? or do i have to install the xvid codec (from xvid.org) and then download VLC. please help.

VLC has it's own built in decoding function. The xvid codec itself is only needed if you plan on using it to decode in any other directshow player. Another alternative to the xvid codec itself is ffdshow.

The Xvid codec is also needed if you plan encoding, because VLC it self is not the best app for do it.

Also, use a better title for the tread.
