You can go here (http://www.cdr-zone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3778) and download this plugin and it will fix your problem.

If the DVDFabDecrypter-ripped DVD "package" plays properly (using a software DVD player to "play as DVD", NOT as individual .VOBs), then it sounds like another simplistic "RipGuard"-protected DVD. After (as you seem to indicate) successfully ripping it with DVDFab Decrypter, load it into VOBBlanker and press the "Process" button. Then load the VOBBlanker-modified DVD "package" into DVD Shrink...

DVDFab Decryptor, then VOB Blanker, and finally DVDShrink...

works like a champ!

Glad to hear it worked for you;>} This rather simple approach appears to work with all of those few "RipGuard-protected DVDs that have "hit the streets" thusfar. It should have likewise worked using DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 instead of DVDFab Decrypter...

programs having problems with difficult cells: shrink, recode2
programs handling them well: clonedvd2 and dvd2one v2. and 1click dvd copy.
if you want shrink or recode to do the job, you'll have to use vobBlanker and/or FixVts.
i use dvd2one v2, no problems.

This is defintely another "Rip-Guard" disc. DVDFab, or Decrypter, then VobBlanker, and finally DVDShrink will fix it! Did anyone notice the long space after the title, when opening up the source? ie. D:[DARK_WATER ................] This seems to readily identify all of the new "Rip-Guard" technology. I have noticed it all the way back to when I first saw it on Madagascar.

The wiz works on this for sure - see kill arccos in my signature. Will eliminate long spaces and other junk.

Hi!
Did anyone notice the long space after the title, when opening up the source? ie. D:[DARK_WATER ................]Using what software did you see this?

Just look in windows explorer, setrip_old, and you'll see what he's referring to. Dark Water was confirmed to be ripguard protected on CDFREAKS forum, as well. This ripguard nonsense is already getting old real quick. There are various methods for dealing with it as we've outlined before(see brothers grimm thread for info). DVDFab Decrypter seems to have been recently updated, as well, so, maybe they updated it to handle this and other new movies I don't know. Personally I don't have an issue with these idiotic protections as I use CloneDVD/AnyDVD to rip right through them like a warm knife through butter. :) For those that want to stick with the free route and don't feel like constantly updating DVDFab Decrypter, then I suggest learning the PGCEdit PSL2 plugin wizard for DVD Decrypter. It's really not hard, is freeware, and it works. Once you have it set up it should work on all movies in the forseeable future. And the best part is if you use that method on ripguard protected movies, you can then use DVD Shrink to your heart's content without problems.

@SamuriHL

Although using PGCEdit together with the plugin certainly will work with the current few "RipGuard"-protected DVDs (as well as "ARccOS"-protected DVDs), all that's required thusfar for "RipGuard"-protected DVDs after ripping with DVD Decrypter is to load the ripped DVD "package" into "VOBBlanker" and press the "Process" radiobutton. The resultant modified DVD "package" will then be accepted for successful processing by DVD Shrink and any other compression or conversion program ;>}

Yea, I know. That's what I've told MANY people to do. FixVTS works just as well. Rip to hard drive, FixVTS or Vob Blanker, DVD Shrink. It works. That's all the plugin really does anyway...it creates a PSL2 file, rips it to the hard drive, and runs FixVTS. It's just all automated more or less. Personally, CloneDVD and AnyDVD...compress right from the disc onto the hard drive, burn. How could it be any easier? :)

@setarip_old
I have seen this with DVDFab as well as DVDShrink, if I try and open the file with Shrink first. I really began to notice it with Stealth, and then referenced back the other discs to see if they were the same. All the way back to Madagascar has the same issue. The periods aren't there, but the thread will not show the extended spaces. Its just a blank spot. But now, as soon as I see the extended space between the [], I automatically know that disc is going to be a problem. Pop in a couple of the RipGuard Origional discs, and open DVDFab. You'll see it as soon as you select the source drive.

Like I said, you don't even need to do that...just open it in windows explorer and you can see the same thing. Their "new" protection rocks. :)

The only real issue I see with getting around it is that people are still using DVD Shrink which is old. The file structure of ripguard protected discs needs to be remapped before Shrink will touch them. People love Shrink, though, so they'll have to live with the idea that the files will have to be preprocessed after they're ripped to the hard drive.

I always approach it with Shrink first. It still handles the majority of the discs. (I have backups of all my 600+ DVDs) And with the ease of Shrink in conjunction with Nero, and its one button Rip & Burn, I will always atempt my first rip with Shrink. Until someone comes out with another "Push a button, and walk away program", this is the way to go. After all, if its going to fail, I'll know it within 15 minutes.

@SamuriHL

No, loading a DVD and checking it's title in Windows Explorer doesn't substantiate or refute what "greentech1974" is suggesting. I just loaded my original DVD, "The Wanderers", which is ancient and definitely does not have "RipGuard" copy protection. In Windows Explorer it appears as "THE_WANDERER..."

On the other hand, the same DVD appears in DVD Shrink as [THE_WANDERERS].

However, as "greentech1974" suggested, my original DVD of "The Brothers Grimm" appears in DVD Shrink as ([B]NO dots, actually spaces)...

@greeentech1974

That's why I use CloneDVD with AnyDVD. Insert the DVD, press backup full DVD, unselect all the useless movie trailers and warning screens, and it just backs it up. I don't have to wonder if it'll work or not...if it doesn't, it means a new protection has been found and I need to report it to Slysoft for an update if it hasn't been reported already. That's what I like about Slysoft products. They couldn't be easier to use and they simply work.

@setarip_old

Interesting. I've never seen a DVD with the spaces before ripguard. I can say for sure that ALL the ripguard titles I've seen so far have the spaces in them. I do think he's right in that if you don't have AnyDVD to inform you of the exact copy protection, this is a good indication that it's probably going to cause you problems. Better safe than sorry I think.

Good point. However DVDShrink is still free, and still works 80% of the time. With the way the goverment is targeting and banning software, I think I'll keep my $40. If I was doing mass quanities of rips, it might be worth it. With only 3 decent new releases to purchase a week, the trial and error, and maybe a loss of an hour a week, just isn't worth gambling $40, and risking that the software could be banned tommorow.

Considering Slysoft is based outside the US on an island nation that isn't very friendly to US copyright laws, there's little chance of it getting banned. I don't consider the purchase of AnyDVD and CloneDVD to be a gamble. I've owned both now for quite some time and haven't once given any credence to the idea that I've gambled my money. However, that being said, if you're happy with your current procedure then you should stick with it. To some people, wasting time on "trial and error" for backups isn't a useful pursuit. To those with more patience it's fine. As long as you can back up whatever it is you need to back up then it's all good. Me? I'd rather spend more time watching my movies than backing them up.

I just used DVD43 and Shrink to copy the movie only. Worked perfectly the first time. I hardly ever see people talking about DVD43 but it is a great, free program.
