I have a DRU-800A I understand that these are Lite-On drives, so in bit setting I would pick Lite-On but what do I select?, Next Write?, Current Media? Drive?. I looked through the ImgBurn website but couldn't find any information on what each setting means. If someone could please elaborate on the details of how it works I would very much appreciate it. :)

Next Write means it'll tell the drive to do bitsetting for all media types. This is not a permanent setting, it'll vanish once you reboot.
Current media is for DVD+RW (as it says). So you put a DVD+RW in the drive and then perform bitsetting on it at that instant.
Then the remaining are clearly labelled too. You select the one for the type of media you want to perform bitsetting on.
EEPROM options are where the settings are stored within the drive and will survive a reboot. Basically you should use those and forget the others. I see no reason to chop and change between bitsetting to DVDROM and then not bitsetting. Just configure the EEPROM options once and then forget about the whole bitsetting thing!

Bitsetting is selected before you start the actual burning...

Yes, that's correct.
Remember that the whole point of EEPROM based settings is that you only do it once.
When the drive correctly registers that DVD+R DL should bitset to DVDROM, you can forget about it.

how can you tell if your drive is already set to the bitset of DVDROM ?

You look at the 'Current Setting' bit that's shown in that very same dialog box!
