Help with "Edge Shimmering"

Now this problem seems to be very pervasive and I've seen it often, so I don't know if there is a better name for it. Unfortunately despite that I have not been able to locate a definite solution for it. So far I've only found threads on rainbowing which also applies, but isn't my main concern here. In anycase, the problem is better illustrated with a sample clip

For maximum annoyance, loop the video indefinitely and you feel like ripping the video out of the screen. It appears to be caused by bad deinterlacing on the source. There's nothing I can do about that, so I need to fix what I have. Anybody can lead me in the right direction? Thanks.

You're right,

It has been caused by someone using (what looks like) field deinterlace on the source w/ a threshold low enough to be triggered by the chair edge. If you don't have access to the original source there is nothing you can do about it though, besides applying a heavy temporal filter, which will create annoying ghosting artifacts all over the source and barely fix this problem.

Thanks for the reply. I've had a couple of other people try tackling this problem without much success. Atleast now I know that we were attempting the impossible. Fortunately this is not prevalent throughout the video. Most of the scenes in which this happens there is little or minimal motion. I'm probably going to go through it manually using partial freeze frame... unless anybody else has got some ideas. I appreciate any input ^_^

this shimmer is caused by a stupid interlaced slowmotion method on a progreesive source, like adobe premiere does.
