View Full Version : Can rebuilder cope with multiangle / interleaving now?

Just a question: can rebuilder (i have version 1.05) cope with multiangle / interleaving?
I just rebuild Keane Strangers DVD 1 and the result is horrible (-24,9% ?).
If this can be corrected or looked in to what information should I offer?
I used CCE for the encode.
Log is present.

I recently tried RB pro on an seamlessly branched/interleaved dvd and the result is great.

@Harm
Yes, it can very definitely do ILVU sources. If you are getting a negative number in the percentage, something else is very definitely wrong. It means that after calculating the space required for audio/subpicture, there isn't any room left for the video (ILVU or not).
Does this disc have LPCM audio tracks present? That's usually the cause.

The DVD only has 1 audio track and that's LPCM.
I took a closer look at the material and the total DVD consists of 16 VTS'es but only 2 are selected by rebuilder (the first and the last). These are also the larger ones (VTS01 = 2504 Mb and VTS16 = 1489 Mb). The total size of the DVD is 7,85 Gb. So I guess there is a lot of space involved with the other ones.
Could this be the cause of things happening?
Should I include the total log in this post?
Looking at the log only ILVU is mentioned in VTS01 but the size is 2468,1 Mb!!
Seems a bit odd that nearly 100% is ILVU! Or isn't it?
This is the first part of the log:
[00:24:48] Phase I, PREPARATION started.
- CCE SP 2.70.2.0 encoder selected.
- "Steal Space from Extras" mode is enabled.
- VTS_01: 1.263.988 sectors.

-- Processed 51.625 frames.
-- Building .AVS and .ECL files
- Reduction Level for DVD-5: -24,9%
- Overall Bitrate : 750/600Kbs
- Space for Video : -750.950KB

You might try adding the line: VTS_MIN_SIZE=1 to your REBUILDER.INI file. That will make all the VTS show up. By default anything less than 52mb is not re-encoded, just copied straight to the output folder. I doubt it would help too much in this case though, it just looks like with the LPCM audios and the menus that there just isn't much space left over to compress it any. Might be worth a try though.

I am willing to try but if the chance is slim maybe I wait on jdobbs to ask me this......
Anyway most of the other VTS'es are not smaller than 52 Mb.
VTS02 = 442
VTS03 = 203
VTS04 = 137
VTS05 = 229
VTS06 = 071
VTS07 = 235
VTS08 = 567
VTS09 = 310
VTS10 = 378
VTS11 = 625
VTS12 = 056
VTS13 = 016
VTS14 = 410
VTS15 = 243
So why aren't they selected for processing? They are copied unaltered to the destination directory.

If the two VTSs that are shown only add up to about 4GB -- and there is over 7GB all together... then the ones that aren't listed combined add up to almost 3GB... include the LPCM in that equation and you end up with less than zero space available for the video.
But they're not showing up as being processed... and the reason is unclear. Do you have any value for VTS_MIN_SIZE set now?
Why don't you send the REBUILDER.INF, REBUILDER.INI, and REBUILDER.LOG to me at dvd-rb@dvd-rb.com so I can see what's up.

jdobbs is it the vts that is <50mb, or the video protion of the vts?
maybe those smaller vts's have huge lpcm tracks but very small (or still) video tracks

Files sent........
No change in VTS_MIN_SIZE I think.............

Dont know you have thought about converting LPCM to AC3 and mux it back then run RB?

How do I do that in combination with using rebuilder????

Hi-
You'd do it before using DVD-RB on it. You'd first extract and demux the movie using, for example, PGCDemux. Convert the WAV file to AC3, mux it back into a DVD with Muxman replacing the WAV audio with your new AC3 audio track, and then fit the new Movie DVD back into the original DVD using the Replace button in VobBlanker. That's one way. Then use the new DVD with AC3 audio in DVD-RB.

This is all new to me! Ofcourse I am willing to try this. But couldn't rebuilder do the same thing for me?
Just received the latest version and am going to try the build again.
If problem persists I'll ask jdobbs if he has already found the time to study the files I sent him.

I still get buffer overflow #3 on the Metallica S&M disc 2 which has 4 angles. Pro release 1.05.2 didn't fix the issue but the rebuilding get get farther until it crashed.

Is this a R1/NTSC disc? I made the buffer ridiculously large -- about 6 times larger than should be needed. Has there been any preprocessing on the disc? The angles shouldn't have an impact, as they are each processed separately.

Eyup, R1. The only thing I did was remove nag screens. I'm pretty fluent with IFO-level editing. Point me in the right direction and I'll see what might be messed up. The entire thing seems to have encoded properly. PGCEdit doesn't complain about the source, nor do other common editing programs and it plays just fine. I understand why you don't want to discuss modified source but it seems odd that DVD-RB Pro pukes while all the editors are happy with it.

ILVU/MULTIPLE ANGLE ????
From what I have tried, it still isn't working the way it should.
Size problems and not synchronized angle switching so video and audio is broken when you switch between angles.
I have a disc with several parts that contains 4 angles per part, and it never went ok with DVD-RB.
I suppose it still has some bugs there.
I have already offered to sent a sample ( I did so as far as I know), but never heard from it again.
If JDOBBS want the sample, he can get it.
DVD-RB does a fabulous job on 99% of the DVD's, but when ILVU/MULTIPLE ANGLE somes at scene, it won't work for me.
I know.... I probably have tried the two discs that are impossible to get right....
That is always happening with me.....
The original discs are just fine when switching. Onces gone through DVD-RB-PRO they are still Multilple Angle, but switching is no longer synchronized, audio and video skippes and total size is not ok.
It's pretty complex material that ILVU/MA stuff, I don't get it, and I don't want to.
So I strip to one angle with DVDSHRINK and compress that one.

How can I check this?
As I am in Europe I expect it not to be a NTSC disc.
Are the others talking about the same thing and/or the same DVD?
I tried your latest version but the result is -24,9%
Are the other suggestions about working on the audio track any good?

@Jdobbs
I'm about to give the bonus disc of Spider-Man 2 another try and was wondering if DVD-RB compresses the multiple angles displayed on the one of the features. If not then I would like to know what has to be added to the rebuilder.ini file. :sly:

Yes -- as long as you are using the Professional Edition. No changes to the INI are required.

When I backed up Ghostbusters 1 (RC2, no preprocessing) ILVU/Multi Angle processing didn't work properly. There are some before - after scenes in the specials section and switching between the angles causes some short lasting blocking and sometimes movie freezes for some seconds before runing in regular way. Due to the blocking I thought it could be a media problem but 5 different blanks (Verbatim-R,-RW, Ritek, Platinum, TDK) exactly showed the same behavior. The original disc is just fine when switching.

Start with checking on the cover...
